About The Yankee Candle Co
The Yankee Candle Co. is an old fashioned American success story. Started by a high school student with the help of some friends in 1975, the company was sold in 1998 for five hundred million dollars. Michael Kittredge founded the company in South Hadley, MA and opened the first candle factory in Holyoke, MA. The company expanded and moved to South Deerfield MA where their flagship store is still in operation.
The Yankee Candle flagship store contains a candle museum and an area where customers can actually dip their own candles. There is also a Santa’s workshop and a Bavarian Christmas Village complete with toy train. You can buy all of the Yankee Candle products in the store. Home décor items are also sold at this location. The Yankee Candle flagship store is a major tourist destination in MA.
Yankee Candles has a second flagship store in Williamsburg, Va. At ten thousand square feet, this store is about one third the size of the original flagship store. This store also carries a full line of Yankee Candle products.
Yankee Candles introduced their signature housewarming candle in 1995. This is the candle in a glass jar that many people associate with the Yankee Candle Co. Renowned for the quality and variety of their scented candles; the company continues to sell the highest quality products and recently introduced a new candle called the Beanswax. This candle is made from soy and burns with less soot than traditional paraffin or even Beeswax Candles.
As a thoughtful and inexpensive gift, a Yankee Candle is always appreciated. Everyone in America is aware of their reputation for quality. Candle safety is important and here are some tips for using your Yankee Candles safely. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Even candles in glass jars can be knocked over by a child or pet and cause a fire. Don’t burn candles in glass jars more than ½ inch from the bottom of the jar. If the bottom of the jar gets too hot, the glass could shatter and injure you. Always place burning candles on a trivet or heat resistant surface, even those in glass jars. Put out Jar Candles by placing the lid on the jar and suffocating the flame. Candles should always be snuffed out, not blown out.
